Every month there will be a homework schedule in your child's binder. Your child or you can color in the square once the activity is competed in the homework notebook. In addition to the homework menu, there will be new sight words every week that you can use the resource pages for ideas on how to practice the sight words. They are called sight words or high frequency words because, they will encounter these words frequently when reading and because they don't all sound out easily so, they need to be practiced and memorized. There is also a Reading Log and Counting/Math Activities. The Reading log should be filled out by a parent and please read to your child as often as possible or nightly. You'll be so proud once you hear your child reading to you :)
In the homework notebook, please start on the first page and try to fit a few activities on each page. It helps if you could write what square you're doing or write the corresponding date so, when I'm checking their work on Friday I can understand what I'm looking at. For example, on one page you could have several activities and you could write a brief caption or heading and your child will do the work under it: write first and last name 5x's, write #'s 0-20, write and draw words for m,a,s,p -mop, apple, star, pizza.
We hope your child will enjoy doing the homework so, we'll keep it fun and keep it as short as possible. Doing a homework square, sight word practice, and reading a story should take about 30-45 minutes each night. This may be new for some kids and families so we greatly appreciate your efforts to make time for homework and for your support in your child's learning.
